Able to have many manipulative properties, elastomers can be stiff, flexible, durable, elastic, viscous, etc. Known for being very resilient, polyurethane elastomers making a big push into the manufacturing and machinery world. Out of all the characteristics these share with other polyurethane products, what really makes the elastomers different is the ability to expand and contract in size, while ultimately returning to its original shape.
These are cured once, and retain that shape permanently.
Typically cured by vulcanization, which is a process in which the elastomer is solidified by adding sulfur.
This process has shown to improve the resilience and strength of the end material. This method often does not require the using of blowing agents like water, air, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen.
These elastomers can be repeatedly melted down and re-molded into a variety of shapes.
